Mercedes-Benz Electric Vehicles

Starting with the EQ in 2016 Mercedes-Benz has gone all-in on rolling out an electric vehicle lineup to meet the needs of a diverse customer base looking for everything from a daily commuter to an off-road recreational vehicle. The luxury brand has managed to accomplish the seemingly impossible – deliver a line of top-notch all-electric models without compromising on the quality, safety, and luxury that Mercedes-Benz has been associated with.

Benefits of an Electric Vehicle

There are several benefits to owning an Electric Vehicle. Pricing is competitive with their gas equivalents and more certified pre-owned vehicles are now in the market and typically cost less than a new model. An electric car can save on average $1,000 in fuel each year compared to its fossil fuel counterpart. They are significantly cheaper to maintain due to fewer moving parts. EVs have single-speed transmissions and regenerative braking (thereby reducing wear) and don’t require oil changes. The only regular maintenance cost is buying new windshield wipers and tires.

Mercedes-Benz EV Charging Stations

While most EV owners charge their daily drivers at home or work, a common concern is a scarcity of charging infrastructure when on longer trips or when away from home. While this may have been an issue in the past there has been a dramatic increase in the availability of public charging options. There are three different charging levels for EVs:

Level 1 Charge: Up to 5 miles of range per hour of charging (Standard household outlet, Low voltage 120v).

Level 2 Charge: Up to 20 miles of range per hour of charging. Mid-level voltage (240v), commonly used in large appliances like dryers

Level 3 Charge: Over 30 miles of range per 10 minutes of charging. DC Fast Charging, the fastest charging option (over 480v)

New York City has built a comprehensive network of publicly accessible Level 2 Chargers and DC fast chargers. DC fast chargers offer a charging experience comparable to a gas station. NYC has been leading the charge with expanding charging stations. NYC DOT and the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability (MOS) are working with partners to expand access to public EV charging. In partnership with a private entity, NYC is installing 120 Level 2 charging ports at curbside locations across the five boroughs to cater to EV owners who may not have access to a home charger. Level 2 charger installations started in June 2021.

The use of the chargers will be managed by FLO. NYC DOT also pre-selects curbside locations based on projected demand for charging, geographic diversity, and input from local elected officials and the community. NYC DOT collected public input on where chargers should be installed. Business owners can also request an EV charger outside of their business. EV owners pay for charging on a per-hour basis. The cost of charging will be competitive with the cost of gasoline for non-EVs. Customers will be able to pay by smartphone, tap card, or on the program website. These parking spaces are reserved for actively charging EVs. As charging options continue to expand, Mercedes EVs make an ideal choice for your next vehicle.
